OK, the guide book confirms the rumors: guinea pigs are in fact eaten in Peru.
But I won’t be fooled! I’ve learned that if I see the word “cuy” on the menu, it’s best to order something else–even if the taste is described as something between chicken and duck. Although Quechua is used mostly in the Andean highlands, I learned the Quechuan word too (“quwi”), just in case.
Where might a restauranteur buy a bunch of pigs? At the guinea pig farm…

Ahhhhh – buy them all and set them freeeeeeeeee
What do you think is the staple of the Remingtons kitchen?? Ohhhh, I admit that was in bad taste.
As the Romans say, cui bono?
Certainly not mine.

Hi:
My G-Mail and your G-Mail account does not seem to be active. I sent them a message to check it out.
Be safe.
Love,
Mom
Is the guinea pig served with a side? Perhaps some wild rice or corn bread? Or is it fried on a stick?
I think I would try it if it were fried and I was reallly hungry. Other than that… I’m with Kate.
Milli assures me that the pig tastes like chicken and that it comes boiled (ew) or fried. Donald, our teammate who’s been on 9 of these adventures and who wants to fully immerse himself in the culture, said he’d like to try it. Um, it’s all yours, man. All I can think of it little Floyd, my childhood Peruvian guinea pig.
Guinea pigs?? For dinner??? Or Almuerzo? I don’t think so. Remember our buddies, Floyd & Andy??
Jacquita!
Come home! Only kidding…
You’re doing a great job and, even though we miss you sorely, we’ll try not to be selfish and share you willingly with all the needy little orphans.
Vaya con Dios & see you soon,
Matt
Phelan!
How the hell did you post this yourself? Did you have one of your students help you? I’m so very, very impressed. It’s nice to be missed. I can’t wait to come home myself, even if this is a grand adventure.

P.S. Donald, one of our group members tried guinea pig and loved it. He likened it to wild rabbit…
As I took the picture, I will comment as well: most of the times they are fried, completely or just a leg. The meat is really healthy with a lot of proteins and little fat.
Normally it is eaten with “choclo” (a big corn) and fresh cheese. I can recommend it.
Fried guinea pig leg is actually quite tasty
